GREENBRAE, Calif., July 22, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Redwood Pet Clinic in Greenbrae announced they now offer cold laser therapy for pets with soft tissue injuries and chronic pain. This new treatment is available for pets suffering from arthritis, inflammation, post-surgical pain, a torn ACL, or other injuries. Veterinarian and clinic owner Dr. Genevieve Manchester added the new therapy to the clinic's services to improve the quality of life for many dogs and cats.
The veterinarian recommends cold laser therapy for pets with post-surgical pain, arthritis and musculoskeletal injuries. According to Dr. Manchester, after just one treatment session at the animal hospital, more than half of all pets showed a marked decrease in pain.
"We are excited to offer this cutting edge treatment as part of our Greenbrae veterinary care," said Dr. Manchester. "After a series of three to four treatment sessions, more than 90 percent of our pet patients show an improvement in quality of life and pain reduction."
Dr. Manchester uses a Class IV laser, which stimulates internal healing and reduces inflammation. The laser penetrates below the skin's surface into cells. The cells then use this energy to increase production of ATP (Adenosine Tri-Phosphate), a chemical compound that helps cells repair damaged tissue.
"A class IV laser delivers profound changes on the cellular level, directly simulating cells to heal themselves," said Dr. Manchester. "Treatments last between 10 and 15 minutes and are non-invasive. We've even had patients fall asleep during treatment. After months or years of struggling with chronic pain, these animals are finally able to comfortably relax."
Dr. Manchester tailors each treatment session to a pet's individual needs. For example, pets suffering from chronic pain may require a different number of treatment sessions in comparison to pets healing after an injury.
"We recognize that each pet has unique needs," said Dr. Manchester. "Our goal with treatment is to help our pet patients return to a normal life as soon as possible. For example, pets with arthritis may no longer be able to move comfortably. Our laser therapy treatments help to safely restore mobility and a full range of motion. At the animal hospital, we work closely with pet owners to deliver the best possible care for pets in need."
The veterinarian says that Class IV laser treatments are more effective than traditional laser therapy. Class IV lasers are able to penetrate deep into injured tissue with increased accuracy. This helps treat disc problems, promote healing for surgical wounds and injured tissue, and also treat hot spots.
"Class IV laser therapy is truly a life-changing veterinary treatment for pets," said Dr. Manchester. "I strongly recommend pet owners ask their veterinarian about this important procedure."
In addition to laser therapy, the Greenbrae animal hospital also provides routine veterinary wellness care, pet surgery, pet grooming and pet boarding. Pet owners may learn more about these services by contacting Redwood Pet Clinic.
