Gresham Veterinarian Uses New Technology to Improve Efficiency and Customer Experience

GRESHAM, Ore., July 22, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Paws & Claws Pet Medical Center, serving Gresham and Troutdale, announced that they have implemented a new electronic medical records system. This system is designed to improve efficiency during a visit and streamline record keeping. Digital X-ray images and other diagnostic reports will also be automatically linked to the digital files. The move to digital record keeping is part of the veterinary clinic's commitment to efficient and responsive Gresham veterinary care and environmental sustainability.

Troutdale exotic veterinarian Dr. Ken DeRemer announced that Paws & Claws Pet Medical Center is making strides in implementing state-of-the-art technology.

The new veterinary management software, ImproMed Infinity, streamlines record keeping and improves our ability to provide outstanding customer service. ImproMed is the oldest producer and manufacturer of veterinary record management software for the companion animal care industry.

"On behalf of our Gresham vet care team, I am excited to announce the incorporation of the new technology," said Dr. DeRemer. "Our primary goal is always to provide the best possible veterinary care for our pet patients and their owners. Digital recording keeping will streamline our appointment and examination process, ensuring that our team has instant access to a pet's medical history, diagnostic exams and X-rays."

With the new ImproMed record keeping software, a pet's vet records will be digitally available anywhere in the clinic; the veterinary care team will not need a physical chart.

The practice's new digital dental radiography equipment, known as Sopix, is also linked into the digital record keeping. Copies of a pet's X-rays will be stored with the digital patient file.

The new software can also email copies of the records to a veterinary specialist or the pet's owner.

"If a pet needs specialized care from another veterinarian, we are able to instantly email the pet's records," said Dr. DeRemer. "There's no need to locate a hard copy. This makes it easy to coordinate care."

Dr. DeRemer also said that digital record keeping makes it easy when families need to move and find a new vet.

"If a family needs to move, we can now quickly send a pet's medical records to their new veterinarian or their own personal email," said Dr. DeRemer. "This ensures continuity of care. Sending records to the new veterinarian will ensure that important exams and vaccinations are not missed. Without a smooth transition process, it's possible that pets can fall behind on vaccinations and be at risk for illness – without pet owners even realizing this."

The practice also is striving to reduce its environmental impact. Switching to digital records means that the practice uses less paper and reduces its carbon footprint.

Paws and Claws Pet Medical Center is a family-owned vet practice that provides wellness programs for dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and exotics. Additionally, the hospital provides pet dental care, cat and dog surgery, and urgent care.
