Wireless Broadband Equipment for VelaTel's Balkans Projects Arrives on Schedule

SAN DIEGO, July 30, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- VelaTel Global Communications (OTCQB:VELA), a leader in deploying and operating wireless broadband and telecommunication networks worldwide, announced today that the infrastructure equipment VelaTel purchased to deploy and expand wireless broadband networks of VelaTel's operating subsidiaries in the Balkans, Novi-Net in Croatia and Montenegro Connect in Montenegro, has arrived at ports of entry in each country.

In May 2012, VelaTel finalized its order for $7 million of infrastructure equipment and software from Chinese equipment manufacturer ZTE Corporation. The equipment includes 50 base transceiver stations (BTS) for installation in Croatia, 25 BTS for installation in Montenegro, and associated core network equipment for installation in the network operations centers to be established in each country. ZTE completed the manufacture and containerization of the equipment in June for shipment by sea, and VelaTel and its local subsidiaries have been preparing for delivery of the equipment so that installation can begin.

During this time, the deployment team has been negotiating the contracts associated with installing and optimizing and then operating and maintaining the equipment. Examples of these contracts include master sub-lease contracts with other telecommunications carriers to co-locate equipment on existing rooftop sites, service contracts with local engineering and construction companies to provide radio frequency planning and site acquisition services, site preparation and installation services, project management services, and contracts with ZTE's local branch offices to optimize and integrate all of the equipment and software components, and for specified operations and maintenance services after launch of the networks.

VelaTel's Chief Operating Officer, Mario Alvarez reports: "The experience and contacts of our local partners at Novi-Net, which already operates a network consisting of 11 base stations in one region of Croatia, has proven invaluable in putting in place all the manpower needed for a successful deployment. We are on target for a projected soft launch of the networks in both Croatia and Montenegro during December 2012."
