DARBY, MT--(Marketwire - Aug 16, 2012) - At a real estate auction in Darby, Montana on Thursday, J. P. King Auction Company sold the West Fork River Hideaway at an absolute auction. The 11,300 square foot home, which has four bedrooms and five bathrooms, was purchased by Randy Marr of Hickory Ridge, Arkansas.
The auction lasted about an hour and brought 10 registered bidders from eight states -- bidding from coast to coast -- competing for the home from Washington, Arkansas, Texas, North Carolina, Montana, Missouri, Virginia and Indiana.
Marr, an outdoorsman, said he purchased the property because of its location. With the backyard's immediate access to a quarter mile of frontage on the West Fork of the Bitterroot River and the seclusion the 16 acres provide, he plans to visit several times a year.
"It's a beautiful property in a hunting and fishing area," Marr said. "It meets everything I wanted it to be."
He also expects to put the home's underground, soundproof shooting range to use.
Marr, who is a farmer and a real estate investor professionally, also bought Stanley Plantation from J. P. King in 2010. The plantation included a five-bedroom, 20,000 square foot home on 857 acres. Marr purchased the home and about 60 acres, which he is considering moving to permanently.
The sellers of the West Fork River Hideaway, Rusty and Evie Wicks, have had the property listed through traditional means for over three years before choosing to sell the home at an absolute auction. The auction took place at the home.
