PA First Lady Susan Corbett to Join PA Breast Cancer Coalition as Honorary Chair of Premier Statewide Conference

HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 4, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The PA Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) Conference will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the Hilton Harrisburg Hotel from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

OVERVIEW:

In honor of breast cancer awareness month in October, the unique statewide conference raises awareness, provides education and presents cutting-edge research to approximately 1,000 breast cancer survivors, family members, advocates, medical professionals, lawmakers and corporate leaders. The PBCC Conference continues to be the premier breast cancer conference in Pennsylvania.

AWARDEES:

The PBCC will honor four influential breast cancer activists at the 2012 Conference.

2012 Pink Ribbon Awardees: The Honorable Allyson Y. Schwartz, United States House of Representatives and Alicia Richards, Anchor/Reporter at abc27 WHTM-TV. The Pink Ribbon Award is given to individuals who demonstrate outstanding leadership in breast cancer research, education, treatment and advocacy. 

2012 Vivian and Meyer P. Potamkin Foundation Research Awardee Nancy E. Davidson, M.D., Director, University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. This award carries a $10,000 prize and is presented to an outstanding leader of the breast cancer research community. 

2012 Shining Light Awardee: Tammy Miller, Breast Cancer Survivor, International Speaker, Author, Presentation Skills Coach and Auctioneer.  This award is presented annually to an individual or group who exhibits outstanding community grassroots leadership in education, outreach and advocacy. 

WORKSHOPS:

The PA Breast Cancer Coalition Conference provides attendees with the latest information on breast cancer research, diagnosis, and treatment options along with an opportunity to network and connect.  This year's educational workshops will focus on topics including: Cutting Edge Treatment, Clinical Trials and Research, Breast Cancer Survivorship and much more!

THE FACTS:

Each day, 32 women in Pennsylvania are diagnosed with breast cancer. Each year, more than 12,000 Pennsylvania women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. More than 2,000 will lose their lives to the disease. The PBCC's mission is to help find a cure for breast cancer and to improve the quality of breast cancer education, research, programming and outreach in the state. 

HOW TO REGISTER/EARLY REGISTRATION AVAILABLE FOR DISCOUNT:

Registration for this highly acclaimed conference, which includes a continental breakfast, Pink Ribbon Awards Luncheon and conference tote bag, is $85. Continuing Education credits are also available for nurses for $50. Registration is available online at pbcc.me/Conf. Early registrations are also available for $65 if completed and submitted by Sept. 24th. The PBCC offers a limited number of travel grants, as well as full and partial Cary Massa Memorial Scholarships for the 2012 Conference. Anyone who needs assistance in paying for attendance to the conference is encouraged to apply, although priority is given to breast cancer survivors.
