Detroit, MI, Sept. 18, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children ages 3 - 14, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA). However, many of these deaths can be prevented through the proper use of child safety seats. With millions of seats sold each year, it's important to make sure you are using your car seat safely, whether by installing it correctly or knowing the right time to move your child up to the next size seat.

Now, in its 15th year, Safe Kids is once again partnering with
the GM Foundation, to launch their annual Buckle Up program - that
brings the motor vehicle safety message to children and families.
The program offers parents and caregivers hands-on instruction
about safety inside the car (including information on car seats,
booster seats and seat belts) as well as around the vehicle.
During National Child Passenger Safety Week (September 16-22), Safe
Kids is hosting more than 500 car seat checkup events nationwide,
making it the perfect time to make sure you are securing your child
correctly.
