North Suffolk Animal Clinic is partnering with Churchland Animal Clinic in Portsmouth to participate in the "Bark for Life" event. The American Cancer Society holds the September 30 fundraiser annually. Like Race for the Cure, the Bark for Life brings community members together in support of the American Cancer Society's mission to improve cancer research.

The staff at the Suffolk veterinary clinic is supporting a team named "Keep Calm and Cure On."

"As veterinarians and pet owners, we see every day the difference that pets can make in the lives for patients who are sick with cancer or other illnesses," said the veterinary staff. "A dog is truly man's best friend. Dogs are incredibly loyal and never judge an owner if his appearance changes or abilities change because he has cancer. The 'Bark for Life' walk is a celebration of the special bond that our dogs share with their human families."

The clinic staff says that supporting the cause is truly a rewarding experience. They also stressed the importance of the animal clinics being active in the community.

The two veterinary hospitals have raised nearly $1,000 in support of Bark for Life. Pet owners may join the veterinary hospitals at the event or contribute by calling the clinics.

"We truly appreciate the incredible outpouring of support that we have received from pet owners and community members," said the clinic representative. "We are thrilled with our successful fundraising efforts, and encourage pet owners to join the cause or give what they can in honor of the special canines in their lives. We are passionate about furthering the American Cancer Society's goal of a world with more birthdays and less cancer."

Bark for Life will be held on Sunday, September 30 at American Cancer Society Office in the Virginia Beach, across from Mount Trashmore Park. The festivities kick off at 1:00pm and run until 5:00pm.
