Vancouver Chiropractor and Wife Complete the Ironman Canada Triathlon

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Sept. 30, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dr. Trevor Kilian and his wife, Lauren Kilian, recently completed the Ironman Canada held in Penticton, B.C. on August 26. The Vancouver chiropractor swam, biked and ran the course in 12 hours, while his wife, Lauren Kilian, who is also a yoga and fitness instructor at Kilian Chiropractic, completed the course in 12 hours and 48 minutes. Ironman Triathlons are held around the world and require participants to swim 2.4 miles, bike for 112 miles and then run a 26.2-mile marathon, without stopping. The Kilians, who provide chiropractic care and wellness services at their center, are elated with their accomplishment.

The Vancouver chiropractor says he and his wife hope that their participation in this event will inspire their patients to strive for lofty fitness goals. "We both participated in the Half Iron Man earlier this year, and we hope to spread excitement about fitness to my patients all over Vancouver, Coal Harbor, West End and Bentall. We just want to say that no matter where you are right now, you can achieve amazing things through hard work and persistence."

The Ironman Triathlon is widely considered the most ambitious of endurance sporting events. The swim starts in Lake Okanagan, and then becomes a bike race when the swimmers reach Penticton. The bike race involves an elevation climb of almost 4000 ft., and the racers still have a full marathon to complete afterward. Dr. Kilian says that it is grueling, but also very exhilarating to be able to complete the race and to see how much the human body is capable of achieving.

Dr. and Mrs. Kilian say that because of their training and participation in the Ironman, it gives them extra insight for helping their patients. Lauren Kilian, who teaches yoga and therapeutic back exercises to people overcoming back pain, says that this accomplishment helps her inspire those she teaches to never give up on their fitness goals. Dr. Kilian says it also helps them provide more thorough wellness advice and chiropractic care to those of their patients who are also preparing for athletic competitions of their own.

Dr. Kilian adds that as a chiropractor, he believes he has to show his patients as well as tell them how to achieve good health. "I can adjust someone's spine over and over again to get it into the right position for the nervous system to work unhindered, but that person needs to jump in and get involved with his or her own ongoing health goals—and they do. My patients inspire me as much as I hope I'm inspiring them.

Dr. Kilian provides a wide range of chiropractic care techniques and wellness services such as nutritional counseling. Mrs. Kilian teaches yoga, fitness and therapeutic exercises at the center—their website is http://www.kilianchiropractic.com.
