Koniag Board elects Ron Unger as Chairman


Durham, NC, Oct. 25, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Koniag, Inc. has announced that Ron Unger was elected Chairman of the Board by the company's Board of Directors, immediately following its Annual Shareholders Meeting on October 6, 2012.  Chris Johnson had served as Chairman for the previous nine years, through a period of growth and diversification for Koniag.  Unger, a member of Koniag's board since being elected by its shareholders in 2004, had served as Treasurer from 2005 to 2011, and as Vice-Chairman from 2011 to 2012.  

Koniag is a holding company based in Kodiak, Alaska with operating companies and real estate holdings throughout the United States.  Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, Unger is President and CEO of WorkSmart, the information technology consulting firm he founded in 2000.  Unger is committed to effective leadership as a board director, and has completed the Governance Fellowship program with the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD).  Additionally, Unger served on boards of two of Koniag's subsidiaries that were later sold to publicly traded companies.  He currently serves on the board of the North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA).
