FREMONT, CA--(Marketwire - Oct 25, 2012) - Foxit® Corporation, a leading provider of solutions for reading, editing, creating, organizing, and helping secure PDF documents, today announced the availability of the Foxit Embedded PDF Software Development Kit (SDK) for developers building Windows Store apps. The SDK provides support for PDF display, annotate, enhanced security, digital signature, and pressure sensitive ink.
The SDK is targeted to developers and device manufacturers who support Windows Store apps that take advantage of powerful, standard-compliant PDF technology to help securely display, search, and annotate documents and to fill PDF forms. Optimized and packaged for Windows Store apps environments, this SDK provides scalable, robust, and high performance PDF technology. Demos and sample code are provided to help developers get up to speed quickly.
"Foxit has been a great associate in building its PDF Embedding SDK for Windows 8. This will enable several app developers with an easy-to-use SDK for embedding PDF files into any Windows Store app," said John Richards, senior director of Windows App Marketing for Microsoft Corp.
Key features of the Foxit Embedded PDF SDK include:
PDF Display
Provides PDF rendering with its small footprint and high performance, consuming little resources on mobile devices but creates and displays PDF documents lightning fast. Reflow provides automatic rearrangement of content permitting a PDF designed for a full sized piece of paper to be easily read on devices with small screens. Since it is built on the PDF engine of the Foxit Reader, it has been hardened by use of over 130 million users worldwide, resulting in rock-solid stability. It provides advanced features such as full search capabilities, progressive processing, memory management, and out-of-memory control. The SDK is compatible with ISO 32000 (PDF Standard 1.7), ensuring that PDF files created by any standards-compliant software can be displayed accurately.
PDF Form Filling and Data Collection
PDF forms allow authors to create digital forms using standard PDF technology so these forms can be viewed, read, and filled-in through freely available PDF readers and internet browsers. Data from these forms can be captured and stored in repositories. The PDF Forms module allows developers to display PDF forms on mobile devices for their users to fill out. Support for JavaScript allows developers to validate data and to submit the collected data to a back end repository.
Annotations
Annotations allow users to write comments, highlights, and other explanatory notes on documents. The Annotation module allows developers to save user annotations as part of the PDF as opposed to an application layer overlay. This allows the annotations to be shared and viewed on other applications (including PDF readers) and on other platforms. Annotations include file attachments, stamps, highlights, notes, and hyper-links.
Security Encryption and Decryption
Digital Rights Management (DRM) provides copyright protection for digital media. Its purpose is to prevent unauthorized access or redistribution of digital media. The Security Encryption and Decryption module provides hooks that allow developers to incorporate PDF documents into their existing DRM solutions. Developers can implement features to password protect PDF files and to enforce associated enhanced security options to determine who can perform actions such as read, modify, text copy, print, save, and more.
Digital Signature
Digital signatures enable users to exchange documents electronically with the assurance that the documents' contents have not been modified since it was digitally signed and to verify the signers' digital identity. The Digital Signature module provides developers the ability to digitally sign PDF documents using third-party digital signatures and to verify digitally signed PDF documents.
Pressure Sensitive Digital Ink
Digital ink enables users to write directly on the screen to control their application and to input information which appears as natural-looking handwriting or drawings. Pressure sensitive digital ink provides a more natural inking experience that allows users to write and draw just as they would with pen on paper. Users are able to finely control the appearance of their annotations, such as thickness, color, opacity, and texture. The Pressure Sensitive Digital Ink module allows developers to incorporate pressure sensitive digital ink capabilities into their PDF solution.
