NEWARK, CA--(Marketwire - Nov 1, 2012) - Morpho Detection, Inc., the explosives and narcotics detection business of Morpho, Safran group's security unit, today announced it has received a five-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for its medium-speed CTX 9800 DSi™ explosives detection system (EDS) with a maximum value of $528 million.
Under terms of the contract, Morpho will supply CTX 9800 units at a firm fixed price (FFP), as well as ancillary equipment and other services as needed. The first delivery order of 37 CTX 9800 EDS includes systems scheduled for deployment at seven new airport projects in early 2013.
"Morpho Detection is thrilled to continue our decades-long work deploying advanced EDS systems to help protect travelers and facilitate air travel throughout the U.S.," said Brad Buswell, president and CEO, Morpho Detection, Inc. "Morpho Detection is committed to meeting high standards for baggage screening and efficiency. By reducing false alarms and time-intensive manual inspections of checked luggage, CTX 9800 is delivering on this commitment."
Morpho Detection's CTX 9800 utilizes advanced computed tomography (CT) technology to deliver high-resolution 3D images in medium-speed configurations, allowing it to meet the needs of any mid-sized or larger airport. Morpho Detection's unique Clarity technology, found in the CTX 9800, enables it to screen checked luggage at higher speeds while continuing to deliver high-resolution 3D images of each bag.
First deployed by TSA to Mineta San José International Airport in 2009, more than 100 CTX 9800 units have been supplied to TSA since its certification. Morpho Detection's CT-based EDS systems are the most widely deployed in the world, with nearly 2,000 in service.
