IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 13, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AllDigital (OTCBB:ADGL) and Cox Media Group (CMG) are excited to announce the fifth launch of the News for iPad app created for CMG's key network TV affiliations. The network stations with apps available in the Apple Store now include KTVU (Oakland), KIRO (Seattle), WPXI (Philadelphia), WSOC (Charlotte), and WFTV (Orlando). The app for WSBTV (Atlanta) is scheduled to launch in the upcoming weeks.
One of the core features of the News for iPad app is the ability for users to watch live newscasts, while simultaneously navigating and accessing other content on the app. Additional features include a headline ticker linked to the latest local news stories, various news categories, up-to-the-minute traffic (live conditions, incidents and drive times), weather (current conditions, extended forecast, interactive radar, and daily VOD of the local meteorologist's report), multimedia (VOD playlists and photo galleries), and social media integration.
The app incorporates Google Maps and Adobe SiteCatalyst integration, Akamai-powered CDN, and dynamic metadata delivered through a unified API publishing platform. There are no geo-restrictions on the app, making it available everywhere, though the content is local news relative to the station's region.
"With the News for iPad apps, we are able to give our television audiences access to their local news content anytime, anywhere," said Ray Marcano, CMG Director of Digital Products & Mobile Integration. "The app interface and the high ratings we've received on the apps show that they appreciate the delivery of specialized broadcast content to their iPads."
"This has been a highly dynamic and interactive project," said Citlali Naranjo, AllDigital Project Manager. "We leveraged from the rich news libraries and coordinated with a variety of CMG departments and key CMG vendors to integrate this wide array of detailed information into an all-encompassing app in a cohesive format that is easy to use."
"We are really proud of what our team accomplished with the News for iPad app," said Tim Napoleon, AllDigital Chief Strategist. "We were able to take the first News for iPad app and clone and customize it for 5 additional affiliate stations in a very fast turnaround, which is impressive for app development of this kind. This innovative app is the result of a great collaborative effort and paves the way for future projects across various markets."
