SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - Nov 14, 2012) - CargoSmart Limited, a leading Software as a Service (SaaS) global shipping and logistics solutions provider, today announced the launch of Innovating, a monthly, complimentary e-newsletter designed to provide shippers, logistics service providers, and ocean carriers intelligent insights about cargo delays around the globe. Subscribers will receive an aggregated view of shipment exceptions around the globe, reasons for the exceptions, and trends in the data that provide new visibility to improve their ocean shipment planning, operations, and customer service.
Based on over 12 years of shipment management systems experience and data, CargoSmart has found that on average, 95% of shipments go according to plan, while 5% of shippers' valuable cargo have exceptions. Reasons for delays include terminal congestion, labor strikes, previous port delays, weather conditions, engine problems, and lack of vessel space, all of which can lead to factory closures, missed sales events, or product shortages. The monthly newsletter focuses on three types of exceptions: skipped ports of call, missed transshipments, and delayed estimated times of arrival.
"CargoSmart's Innovating provides shippers and forwarders insights about cargo delays around the globe that can help them improve daily operations and strategic planning," said Graham Collins, CargoSmart director of sales and services. "We see growing demand from customers for deeper analysis about the reasons for cargo delays so that they may measure and strengthen their service and relationships with their ocean carriers."
CargoSmart's Global Vessel Voyage Monitoring Center (GVVMC) provides the data and analysis for Innovating. Located in Hong Kong and opened in October 2012, the GVVMC currently monitors and analyzes 17 ocean carriers' vessel movements covering over 3,400 vessels and 500 ports around the world. Using advanced analytical software tools, the center analyzes standard vessel patterns, compares them with actual vessel movements, and detects deviations that have the potential to cause shipment-plan exceptions.
The inaugural issue of Innovating provides insight on two vessels' actions around the Port of New York and New Jersey during the recent Hurricane Sandy, an interview with the manager of CargoSmart's GVVMC, and a captain's view of one vessel's maneuvers to avoid the worst of the storm. In the first week after publishing the newsletter on November 5 and making it available to CargoSmart's current customers, over 700 shippers, forwarders, and ocean carriers subscribed.
