HanesBrands Sends Additional Apparel to Assist Hurricane Sandy Victims

Hanes Sends Another Trailer Load of Approximately 120,000 Pair of Underwear and Socks for Men, Women and Children for Distribution to Those in Need Across the East Coast

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Nov. 19, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- HanesBrands announced today that it is donating another trailer load of underwear and socks for distribution to East Coast victims of Hurricane and Superstorm Sandy.

"There is still a great need for basic apparel such as underwear, socks, and fleece sweatshirts for victims dealing with the aftermath of such a devastating storm," said Chris Fox, the company's vice president of corporate social responsibility. "Communities can't recover from such a natural disaster overnight, and we are dedicated to doing our part to assist disaster relief agencies and charitable organizations help the victims get back on their feet."

The trailer of Hanes brand underwear and socks for men, women and children will reinforce a previous donation of three trailer loads of Hanes and Champion underwear, T-shirts hoodies, jackets and sweatshirts and pants sent to the company's nonprofit relief partner Fashion Delivers Charitable Foundation, Inc.

Fashion Delivers, a New York-based nonprofit organization that distributes apparel and home furnishings to victims of natural disasters around the world, is sending the Hanes and Champion apparel to several communities and nonprofit assistance organizations, including:

  • The Legacy Center serving Brooklyn and Queens in New York City
  • Broad Channel American Legion Post serving Breezy Point, N.Y.
  • Make the Road NY serving Staten Island in New York City
  • City of Secaucus, N.J.
  • The Community Food Bank of New Jersey, which has offices in central and southern New Jersey.

To date, Hanes has donated three trailers of about a half million pair of underwear and socks and fleece to storm victims valued at more than $1.25 million.

"Hanes has hundreds of employees in the affected areas, and our company and its worldwide employees offer their deepest sympathy to those whose lives have been impacted as a result of Sandy," Fox said. "We have a long tradition of assisting communities around the world that have suffered from natural disasters."

The company has previously partnered with Fashion Delivers to provide basic clothing needed by victims following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the 2011 tsunami and earthquake in Japan, and the 2011 tornadoes in the Midwest and Southeast United States.

For those who want to help Fashion Delivers in its relief efforts, they may go to www.FashionDelivers.org to donate new apparel or cash or may call (646) 786-2680. For every dollar of cash donated, Fashion Delivers is able to distribute $25 worth of donated apparel.
