Yale-New Haven Hospital Selects Mediware's Transtem(TM) Software

Software to Support Hospital's Expanding Use of Stem Cells in Patient Care

LENEXA, Kan., Nov. 28, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mediware Information Systems, Inc., a provider of comprehensive healthcare IT software solutions, announced today that Yale-New Haven Hospital has selected Mediware's Transtem™ software to support the hospital's cellular therapy program. The Transtem software provides end-to-end support for hospitals, blood and marrow transplant programs, cord blood banks and cancer treatment centers, providing automated support for collecting, testing, manufacturing and storing cell therapy products, as well as matching and utilizing of these products for patient care.

The team at Yale-New Haven Hospital initially plans to leverage the Transtem software to track the use of stem cell products in providing patient care, monitoring therapies and reporting patient outcomes. Key factors in the selection include Transtem's comprehensive support of the entire cellular therapy process; the open nature of the system and its ability to integrate with other systems and devices; as well as the credibility and reliability that Mediware has in the industry.

Dr. Edward Snyder, professor of laboratory medicine and director of the blood bank and stem cell processing laboratory commented: "As stem cell transplants have increased in frequency and complexity at Yale-New Haven Hospital it has become essential that we have an information management solution capable of supporting our unique patient, product and reporting needs."

In addition to the system's comprehensive capabilities, Transtem is designed to improve productivity across the organization. Transtem is web-based and enables Yale-New Haven Hospital laboratory and clinical teams to obtain access to the same patient, product and outcome information from other sites, as Yale-New Haven Hospital has expanded beyond New Haven. Further, the system supports scanning devices and ISBT-128 barcode labeling of product inventories, reagents and supplies to allow staff to quickly scan needed products and associate these with the patient. This eliminates manual data entry, reduces the risk of data transcription errors and enables dramatic productivity improvements over paper-based or manual recording. Transtem also enables integration with other core information systems, such as Yale-New Haven Hospital's EMR (electronic medical record), for further productivity and safety benefits.

"As an emerging area of care, our data management and reporting needs for stem cell transplant are significant," continued Dr. Snyder. "To be effective, we need to automate our reporting to save time and improve our productivity. At the same time, we need a solution that allows our clinicians and researchers easy access to data to perform required statistical analysis of patient outcomes as part of its role in the NMDP transplant network."

The Transtem product was designed by industry professionals that work closely with industry agencies to ensure reporting requirements are easily and accurately met. In addition to facilitating communication between caregivers, the software also serves as a bridge to unite laboratory and clinical teams within a single environment.

Mediware's expansion into cellular therapy technologies continues the company's nearly 40 year legacy of providing leading edge blood management technologies. These include the first transfusion management software system cleared for use in hospital blood banks by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, as well as donor recruitment and laboratory software solutions used by major blood centers.

The company is hosting two informational webcasts to illustrate how the Transtem software solves the unique challenges that blood and marrow transplant centers face worldwide. The programs are scheduled for December 4 and December 6, at 10 am CST. Online registration for either date is required and is available from Mediware's online event center (http://mediware.webex.com).
