MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 28, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Singularity University has issued its final call for applications to the 2013 Graduate Studies Program (GSP). The unique ten-week program, to be held June 15 through August 25, 2013, offers an unparalleled learning environment focused on identifying and using rapidly accelerating technologies to find solutions to humanity's greatest challenges.
Applications will be accepted through December 11, 2012, with notification in February 2013. Full program details and instructions for applying for GSP13 are provided at: apply2013.singularityu.org.
"The GSP core curriculum is structured to provide a broad, cross-disciplinary understanding of the biggest ideas and issues in disruptive technologies," said CEO Rob Nail. "Our goal is to help our participants not only identify exponential trends, but also see the social and economic impact globally. Then, we immerse them into the unique environment of Silicon Valley, and introduce them to some of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world to give them an edge-up on creating their own transformative projects and companies."
Limited to 80 highly qualified applicants from around the world, participants study and work with SU's world-class core faculty, and cutting-edge expert practitioners and thinkers who serve as guest lecturers, mentors and advisors. Throughout the summer, GSP participants are challenged with designing 10⁹+ Team Projects, with the mission of creating innovations that positively impact the lives of a billion people within a decade.
Now in its fifth year, Singularity University's GSP alum now number 280 from 70 countries, creating a powerful global network of newly emerging innovators and entrepreneurs. SU is also viewed as an important springboard for its participants to create their own companies in the areas of medicine and neuroscience, biotech and bioinformatics, artificial intelligence and robotics, energy and environment, and networks and computing. Through SU Labs, initiated in 2011, SU is serving as an important incubator in startups aligned with SU's mission. To date, 26 companies have been formed by SU alum. Many of these companies have been successful in acquiring funding from angel and venture capital investors, and have received grants and awards from governments and foundations.
More than two-thirds of all GSP participants have received full or partial scholarships. For the 2013 GSP, SU has initiated eight new full scholarship offerings: two for outstanding women, and three each for exceptional applicants from Africa and Asia. These new offerings are in addition to the 20 full scholarships provided to the winners of SU's Global Impact Competitions. SU now has 70 global ambassadors conducting competitions worldwide, with the support of local partners.
