2013 CPIA Anti-Litter Calendar Contest Success

2013 CPIA Anti-Litter Calendar Contest Another Huge Success!

TORONTO, Jan. 7, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Thirteen winning entries were chosen from over 1000 anti-litter design submissions from across Canada for inclusion in the 2013 Anti-Litter Calendar, sponsored by the Canadian Plastics Industry Association (CPIA). The contest asked students from kindergarten to high school to create a poster with a strong anti-littering message.

"We were amazed at the number of entries that we received." comments Carol Hochu, President and CEO, CPIA. "Students from all across Canada rose to the challenge and created some really imaginative designs that help illustrate the need for anti-littering behaviour."

The calendars will be distributed to the winning students, CPIA members as well as government officials and the educational community. An electronic version of the calendar is available for downloading at www.plastics.ca/anti-litter.

"The idea is to get everyone on side in helping in the fight against litter," adds Hochu. "We think this calendar is one way of reminding people that there's no time like the present. All of the students are very much aware of the fact that we need to stop littering, as is demonstrated in their very convincing submissions."

In Canada, the CPIA continues to work on plastics recycling and recovery opportunities in order to divert plastic waste from landfills and ensuring plastics do not end up in the marine environment.

On a broader front, CPIA and the world's leading plastics associations recently announced a Progress Report on the Global Declaration of the Plastics Associations for Solutions on Marine Litter. The report identifies more than 140 projects to prevent marine litter that are completed, underway or planned. For more information visit www.marinelittersolutions.com.
