ATLANTA, Jan. 10, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Employees in the Detroit office of Advance Security, a division of U.S. Security Associates, gave up the opportunity to enjoy a company-sponsored day of recreation and spent time together giving back to their community instead.
The security company staff decided that this year, in lieu of the usual annual staff appreciation event, they wanted to try a different kind of team building activity. The company's long-time uniformed security services client, Focus: HOPE, was planning a massive food delivery for low-income seniors participating in the organization's food program. Focus: HOPE needed volunteers to assist with the delivery of more than 800 baskets containing provisions for the month.
Focus: HOPE is a Detroit-based civil and human rights organization that operates programs to provide food, career training and academic achievement support to those in need. Focus: HOPE has served residents of Detroit and its suburbs for 40 years and has been instrumental in providing canned and packaged food for 21 million people who struggle to survive on meager incomes.
The Advance Security team stepped forward with enthusiasm, coordinating volunteer efforts with Focus: HOPE Security Manager Clinton Robinson to load meal baskets, direct traffic and maintain order as hundreds of people waited in line. Regional Manager Dan Davis was among the security company volunteers who helped the event run smoothly. He says, "This experience has touched the entire staff, and many of our people want to return to do more with Focus: HOPE. This organization is really making a difference in people's lives in this community."
Through Focus: HOPE's career training programs, nearly 12,000 talented men and women have established careers that pay sustainable wages. By providing resources for youth development, academic achievement, and community revitalization, the organization takes a holistic approach to improving quality of life for thousands of people.
Will Riley, Vice President of U.S. Security Associates' Midwest Business Unit, applauds the team in Detroit. "I am very proud of our Detroit team and the new culture and leadership that are flourishing. When your contract security services team freely volunteers to help you in their personal time – and gives up their employee appreciation event to do it – you know you have the best security company. I am glad to represent a team that offers our client that value."
