PARC Scientists Honored, PARC Innovation Business Strategy Recognized

Victoria Bellotti Received 2013 SIGCHI Award; Scott Elrod Named AlwaysOn 2012 Greentech 'Power Player;' Jose Joaquin Garcia-Luna-Aceves Recognized by IEEE; Lawrence Lee Chosen as Finalist for 'Innovating Innovation Challenge'


Palo Alto, Feb. 5, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --  PARC, a Xerox company, today announced that Victoria Bellotti, Scott Elrod, Jose Joaquin (J.J.) Garcia-Luna-Aceves and Lawrence Lee were honored for excellence within their respective disciplines, ranging from ethnography to cleantech to networking to innovation services. 

SIGCHI, the premier international society for professionals, academics, and students interested in human-technology and human-computer interaction, announced the recipients of the 2013 SIGCHI Awards, including PARC's Victoria Bellotti for her work in human-computer interaction and user experience research. Bellotti is a Principal Scientist and the developer of PARC's Opportunity Discovery research and strategic investment targeting program, which assists clients in identifying the best direction to move with new technology-centered business ventures.

AlwaysOn recognized Scott Elrod as a 2012 AlwaysOn Power Player in Greentech, which honors the most influential people in the greentech industry who bring massive technology breakthroughs to a world that's hungry for clean, sustainable products. "These powerful individuals are bringing a new generation of innovation to the technology marketplace and the Global Silicon Valley, making our world a cleaner, safer, better place to live," stated the judges of the event in a statement. Elrod is Vice President of the Hardware Systems lab and Director of the Cleantech Innovation Program at PARC, where researchers develop solutions for energy efficiency, clean water, renewable fuels, and more.

The IEEE COMSOC AHSN TC Award Committee has selected J.J. Garcia-Luna-Aceves as a winner of the 2012 IEEE COMSOC Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks (AHSN) Technical Committee (TC) Technical Recognition Award. The award was presented in Anaheim at the December 2012 AHSN TC meeting at GLOBECOM. Garcia-Luna-Aceves leads PARC's research on ad hoc networking and wireless networking for multiple industry and government clients.

Lawrence Lee'scontribution "Innovation as a Business: How to Create a Repeatable and Sustainable Innovation Engine" was selected as a finalist for the Innovating Innovation Challenge, which is presented by Harvard Business Review and McKinsey & Company, and powered by Management Innovation Exchange (MIX). "The judges and the MIX editorial team poured over more than 140 contributions from innovators from around the world and from every kind of organization--looking for depth, boldness, originality, thoroughness, and the ability to inspire and instruct in equal measure," said the MIX judging panel in a statement.
