Naxos and Its Distributed Label Partners Receive Thirteen Juno Nominations


TORONTO--(Marketwire - Feb 19, 2013) - The 2013 Juno Award nominees were announced today in Toronto. They included 13 titles recorded for or distributed by Naxos. The first three releases in the new Naxos Canadian Classics series were all nominated.

In Classical Album of the Year: Solo or Chamber Ensemble, the nominees include Amici Chamber Ensemble for their recording Levant (ATMA Classique ACD2 2655); Canadian Brass for Canadian Brass Takes Flight (Opening Day 30008); James Ehnes for his recording Bartok Works for Violin and Piano, volume 1 (Chandos CHAN 10752); and Triple Forte for their recording of trios by Ravel, Shostakovich and Ives (ATMA Classique ACD2 2633).

In Classical Album of the Year: Large Ensemble; nominees include Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and conductor Bramwell Tovey for Fugitive Colours: Music of Jeffrey Ryan (Naxos Canadian Classics 8572765); and Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra for The Galileo Project (Tafelmusik Media TMK1001DVDCD).

In Classical Album of the Year: Vocal or Choral; nominees include longtime Naxos recording artists, the internationally acclaimed Elora Festival Singers, conducted by Noel Edison for their CD I Saw Eternity (Naxos Canadian Classics 8572812); Karina Gauvin for Prima Donna (ATMA Classique ACD2 2648); Marie-Nicole Lemieux for Opera Arias (Naïve V5264); and Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir for Handel's Messiah (Tafelmusik Media TMK1016CD2).

A further three nominations were received in Classical Composition of the Year, one of Canada's most prestigious composer awards. Denis Gougeon was nominated for Mutation (ATMA Classique ACD2 2395); R. Murray Schafer for Trio for Violin, Viola and Cello (Centrediscs CMCCD 17712); and Vivian Fung was nominated for her Violin Concerto, from Dreamscapes, a Naxos Canadian Classics (8572009) CD dedicated to her music.
