NEWARK, CA--(Marketwire - Mar 5, 2013) - Morpho (Safran), through its subsidiary Morpho Detection, Inc., today announced the Narita International Airport Corporation in Japan has purchased 13 high-speed CTX 9800 DSi™ explosives detection systems (EDS) for hold baggage screening.
The latest evolution of Morpho's industry-leading CTX™ family of EDS, CTX 9800 is U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA)-certified as high-speed, capable of screening more than 1,000 bags per hour (BPH). All 13 units will be integrated into Narita International Airport's baggage handling system beginning this year to replace legacy systems. This deployment will bring the total number of Morpho CTX EDS units in service at Narita International Airport to approximately 40.
"Morpho is thrilled that Narita International Airport has recognized the operational capabilities of CTX 9800 by selecting it to protect travelers," said Brad Buswell, president and CEO, Morpho Detection, Inc. "We are committed to helping airports of all sizes enhance the efficiency of their checked baggage screening programs. By reducing false alarms and time-intensive manual inspections of checked luggage, CTX 9800 is delivering on this commitment."
Morpho's unique Clarity technology, found in the CTX 9800, enables it to screen checked luggage at higher speeds while continuing to deliver high-definition 3-D (HD3-D) imaging of each bag.
By utilizing advanced computed tomography (CT) imaging technology, CTX 9800 can enhance operational efficiencies by screening bags faster and with fewer false alarms. Morpho's CT-based EDS systems are the most widely deployed in the world, with nearly 2,000 in service.
