BOSTON, March 5, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In 2004, Anthony Ackil and Jon Olinto looked at the $65 billion U.S. burger market and decided there was something missing. Nowhere out there was anyone serving food that people could feel good about, while knowing where it comes from. Thus, b.good was born.
The life-long friends created a concept that serves 'real' locally sourced, humanely raised, natural meat and locally grown produce, both from family farmers.
"Growing up, food was personal for us. What we noticed was that restaurants and fast food specifically, had lost its personal touch, so we wanted to create a place where you could come eat and know that your food was made by people, not factories," said Jon Olinto, co-founder of b.good.
Today, b.good has nine restaurants open and operating throughout Boston, becoming a staple in the local community, and most recently announced an aggressive franchising initiative. With a planned 50 locations open by 2015, b.good will open its first franchise location in Shrewsbury, Mass. in early March 2013. Additionally, b.good currently has signed franchise agreements across five states for an additional 23 locations, as well as an additional 12 corporate-owned locations planned to open.
"We wanted to make sure that we were able to scale our concept as it is, without cutting corners, and really create viable and efficient processes for future franchisees," said Anthony Ackil, co-founder and CEO of b.good. "Now that we have these systems in place, we're happy to announce this new initiative and get it off the ground."
B.good is much more than a burger joint, an important distinction in the ever-saturated "better burger" market. The chain has positioned itself in a category of its own, with a range of fresh salads featuring made-from-scratch dressing and local produce, in addition to turkey burgers and chicken sandwiches.
"We like to say we play in the 'real' burger market, a market we believe to be underserved and in its infancy," said Ackil. "In actuality, beef only accounts for 15 percent of our sales, which allows us to attract a unique customer demographic."
To augment the company's growth, b.good is seeking single and multi-unit franchisees with the experience and capacity to manage a growing brand. With an initial franchise fee of $30,000 and an average startup cost of between $400,000 and $600,000 b.good is targeting the entire east coast for franchise expansion.
