FULLERTON, Calif., April 11, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In observance of Autism Awareness Month in April, CF Dance Academy will offer "Everybody Dance Now," the first dance and movement program specifically available for children with special needs in North Orange County,at CF Dance Academy West Campus at 109 S. Harbor Blvd in Fullerton, for an eight-week session Fridays from 5-6pm from April 19 through June 7, 2013. (Event Flyer: http://www.cfdance.net/images/CF_everybody_danceflyer.png)
With a goal of tailoring the class to the needs of the community, the class will be taught not only by CF Dance Academy owner Leanna Forcucci-Herron, of Fullerton, who has 25 years of dance experience, but will also be facilitated by Robin Hogerhuis, of Fullerton, a parent of two children with autism, who has her MS in Special Education and an MA in Behavioral Therapy.
Classes are offered at $94 for an eight-week session, with no additional costs or fees above what is charged for a dance class with non-disabled participants. Following the class, there will be a recital performance at the Servite High School in Anaheim at 5pm on June 16.
Says Inclusion specialist Hogerhuis, "Miss Leanna, the owner of CF just has a really big heart for our kids. I had waited 8 years to give my child an accessible opportunity to be on stage, and we are so thankful to her for opening her doors to this program and to our families affected by disability."
Each session will include a "peer buddy" program and a parent-and-child social skills component, all utilizing the best practices for inclusion and participation for kids ages 4-13 who may be affected by developmental, physical, or cognitive disabilities.
