INTERLOCHEN, Mich., April 16, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On Thursday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m., history will be made in Corson Auditorium, as Interlochen Arts Academy students will perform side-by-side with the world renowned Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. This will mark the first time that high school students have ever performed with the Grammy Award-winning orchestra.
A conductorless orchestra, Orpheus has invigorated international audiences and critics alike with its superior artistry, energy and distinctive approach to music-making. Orpheus is committed to illuminating both traditional orchestral repertoire as well as new works by contemporary composers in a unique and liberating manner. They will be joined by the two-time MacDowell Colony Fellow, composer and singer-songwriter Gabriel Kahane, as well as Interlochen Arts Academy students majoring in music and dance.
But that's not all.
"Interlochen Arts Academy student musicians were selected to learn the music and perform side-by-side with Orpheus. Our dance faculty choreographed the Schoenberg work to be danced by members of the IAA Dance Ensemble. Visual art students designed the set, and worked with our head costume designer Candace Hughes. Design and Production students designed the lighting. Creative Writing students wrote the poem that appears in your program, students from Motion Picture Arts have documented the process for a later project, and worked closely with the visual artists on the projections you will see. And Gabriel Kahane plans to spend the afternoon of April 25th working with students in the IAA singer-songwriter program," explained Interlochen President Jeffrey S. Kimpton.
