Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to Honor Hispanic Women in Business During Its 37th Annual Gala

"Nominations are Opened"

WASHINGTON, April 30, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In celebration of the achievements and accomplishments of our region's most inspiring Hispanic business women, the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GWHCC) will honor "Hispanic Women in Business" during its 37th Annual Gala on June 21, 2013 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC.

The Annual Gala is the region's premier gathering for Hispanic businesses. Each year the Chamber presents its accomplishments, goals and priorities for the business community. In particular, this year the Chamber will honor Hispanic business women and recognize the many contributions they have made to drive our country's economic recovery and prosperity. Hispanic women entrepreneurs represent the fastest growing segment of small business owners and the second largest segment of diverse women entering the workforce. They represent nearly 600,000 businesses, generate close to $70 billion in sales and employ more than 500,000 people. "The Chamber recognizes the important role Hispanic business women serve in our community and is proud to highlight their successes and impact on our region and overall business community," commented Mario Acosta-Velez, Chairman of the GWHCC Board.

This year's Gala Co-Chairs are Julissa Marenco, President of ZGS Communications Station Group and Nina Albert, Director at Walmart. "ZGS has been a long supporter of the Chamber. Our company is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and is extremely proud of our entrepreneurial roots and the support the Chamber has provided our business and the small business community-at-large," commented Julissa Marenco. ZGS Communications is the largest independent owner of Telemundo television stations in the country.

Nina Albert, Director at Walmart joined Ms. Marenco, "I am honored to be the Co-Chair of GWHCC's 37th Gala. Diversity is at the core of Walmart. We value it in our associates, customers, and partners. In 2011 alone, Walmart stores spent over $11 billion with diverse-owned businesses through our Supplier Diversity Program. We also launched the Women's Global Economic Empowerment Initiative in 2011, to help support women professionals working across our supply chain.  Walmart is excited to partner with the GWHCC to celebrate this region's Hispanic business women."
