Spring Value Investing Congress to Feature Rising Stars of Hedge Fund Industry

Rising Stars Will Present Alongside Leading Hedge Fund Managers at First-Ever Las Vegas Congress

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwired - Apr 30, 2013) - Schwartz Tilson Information, Inc. today announced a lineup of five Rising Stars -- talented emerging or low-profile hedge fund managers -- who will speak at the 8th Annual Spring Value Investing Congress, the first in Las Vegas. Added to the Congress as a feature element beginning this spring, the Rising Stars will share the stage with more than 20 of the industry's leading heavyweights on May 6 and 7.

"Serious investors attend the Value Investing Congress year after year to gain access, insights, and new ideas they can't find anywhere else," said John L. Schwartz, M.D., co-founder and chairman of Schwartz Tilson Information. "That's exactly what we had in mind when we added the Rising Stars to our agenda for the first time ever this spring. These five managers, while flying below the radar, have displayed considerable investment prowess and may very well be the names we'll hear again and again in the future."

The Rising Stars are:

  • Geoffrey Batt, Euphrates Advisors: Geoffrey Batt has been investing on the Iraq Stock Exchange since January 2008. In April 2010, Mr. Batt founded Euphrates Advisors. Prior to his Iraq investments, Mr. Batt was an analyst at Quantrarian Capital Management. Mr. Batt studied philosophy at Columbia University.

  • Zack Buckley, Buckley Capital Partners: Zack Buckley is the founder of Buckley Capital Partners, a value-focused long/short equity hedge fund. The fund employs a fundamental approach that is research intensive and concentrated, generally with 10-15 core positions focused primarily in small cap equities. While long-biased, the fund occasionally shorts companies in situations with highly asymmetric risk-reward potential. Mr. Buckley is a contributing writer for Thestreet.com and Seekingalpha.com. Prior to launching Buckley Capital Partners, he was a consultant for Baker Street Capital Management.

  • Tim Eriksen, Eriksen Capital Management: Tim Eriksen is the founder and Managing Partner of Eriksen Capital Management, a value-oriented investment firm based in Lynden, Washington. Eriksen Capital serves as the advisor to Cedar Creek Partners, a private investment partnership created in 2006. The partnership focuses primarily on small and micro cap stocks. From 2004 to 2006 Mr. Eriksen worked for Walker's Manual, which, at the time, printed manuals on community bank, micro cap, and unlisted stocks. Prior to that Mr. Eriksen worked for Peter Kiewit Sons, a national construction firm based in Omaha, Nebraska. Mr. Eriksen earned an MBA from Texas A&M University in 1997.

  • Guy Gottfried, Rational Investment Group: Guy Gottfried is the founder and manager of Rational Investment Group, a value-oriented investment fund. Rational employs a risk-averse, research-intensive value methodology to uncover securities exhibiting material upside potential along with minimal risk of capital impairment. Prior to launching Rational, Mr. Gottfried was an analyst at Fairholme Capital Management. Mr. Gottfried is a graduate of York University in Toronto, where he was a President's Scholarship recipient.

  • Marcelo Lima, Heller House: Marcelo P. Lima is the managing member of Heller House, a value-oriented investment management company focused on event-driven, undervalued securities globally. Prior to founding Heller House, Mr. Lima worked in the acquisition and financing of commercial and residential real estate, and was an analyst at New York based hedge fund T2 Partners. Mr. Lima graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.

In addition to the Rising Stars, the upcoming Congress will also feature more than twice as many speakers than at past events; an unprecedented lineup of international value investing notables; and a Think Tank Lunch guided by moderators who will lead informal discussions on a variety of timely topics in value investing.
