Opening Up Online Learning on Global Accessibility Awareness Day

Lambda Solutions Sponsors Neil Squire Society Webinar on Moodle and Accessibility

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - May 6, 2013) - Education is the key to helping people achieve their goals, but people with disabilities face challenges in accessing that education. That's why the Neil Squire Society is running a special webinar on May 9, about Moodle and Accessibility during Global Accessibility Awareness Day.

"We've been using Moodle for over four years to deliver programming to people with various disabilities across Canada," says Neil Squire Society's Director of Development, Chad Leaman. "There are a number of things instructional designers and teachers can do in Moodle to make the learning experience more accessible to people with disabilities."

The webinar presentation will offer ideas and tips on improving online access to deal with different kinds of disabilities. For instance, people with visual impairments might benefit from using screen readers that are compatible with the Moodle Learning Management System. Captions help the hearing-impaired benefit from multimedia content. Meanwhile, people with learning disabilities could gain better access to materials just by shaping the online content or learning path for their particular requirements.

The event is sponsored by Lambda Solutions, a Vancouver-based eLearning services provider and official partner of Moodle. "We've been working with the Neil Squire Society for years, providing the managed hosting and support they need to offer people with disabilities opportunities for online learning. We've been amazed by their results they've achieved with Moodle," says Lambda Solutions Owner, Shevy Levy.

Global Accessibility Awareness Day is meant to get people talking, thinking and learning about digital (web, software, mobile, etc.) accessibility and users with different disabilities.

The free webinar on Moodle Accessibility features Ryan Thomas and Chad Leaman of the Neil Squire Society on Thursday, May 9, at 10:00 am PDT. The session will be delivered via Blackboard Collaborate, details provided upon registration. Learn more and register at http://www.neilsquire.ca/latest-news/global-accessibility-awareness-day/.
