Metaswitch Networks Announces Project Clearwater

SAN FRANCISCO, CA and ENFIELD, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwired - May 8, 2013) - Metaswitch Networks today is contributing the initial codebase for Project Clearwater, an open-source IMS core initiative designed for the cloud. The code is available to the worldwide community of industry software developers and systems integrators at http://www.projectclearwater.org.

Project Clearwater provides a foundation for network operators and others building scalable voice and video applications to deliver critical call and session control functions, along with Telephony Application Server (TAS) capabilities, within any virtualized data center. Clearwater's innovative design offers massive scale and "telco-grade" reliability in private or public cloud environments, together with exceptionally low running costs of around 2 cents per subscriber per year based on Amazon.com's AWS pricing.

Project Clearwater follows IMS architectural principles and supports all of the standardized interfaces generally expected of an IMS core network. But unlike traditional implementations of IMS, Clearwater was designed from the ground up for the cloud. Metaswitch Networks will continue to drive the evolution of this codebase in line with standard open-source procedures to meet the requirements of today's most innovative service providers.
