TROY, Mich., June 13, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Global LT announces the death of Hortensia Albertini, the founder of Global LT, at the age of 65. This news closes a significant chapter in the history of Global LT and the passion Hortensia had for teaching people that endured throughout her life.
Hortensia is succeeded by Lisette Poletes, her daughter and now owner of Global LT as of January 1, 2013. Hortensia remained President until her death on June 11, 2013.
Global LT was established in the kitchen of Hortensia Albertini's Michigan home in 1979, with nothing more than a phone and a filing cabinet. A Cuban immigrant, who at the time was divorced and without a formal education, was forced to find a way to raise her daughter Lisette. She decided to use the only practical skill in which she had confidence, her Spanish language. Hortensia began offering language lessons to executives moving to Mexico for work assignments, which proved very positive for her small home based business. From there, Hortensia began offering other languages and cultural training programs. Today, Global LT is a full-service training, translation and expatriate destination solution center headquartered in the USA with entities in China, Hong Kong, Brazil, and the UK.
"I am honored to follow in the footsteps of my mother, Hortensia Albertini, who was a strong figure in business and in the community," says Lisette Poletes, CEO of Global LT "Like many, I am grieved at her passing, and she will be missed immensely. Hortensia was an amazing mother and business partner to me and we will all remember her for her kind heart, her passion for teaching and her love of animals."
Hortensia and her company were recognized for many accomplishments throughout the years. Most recently Hortensia received two honors for Entrepreneur of the Year, one by Ernst & Young and the other through Crain's Detroit (2011). Her organization has been recognized for its work by receiving several awards such as State of Michigan: Top 50 Michigan Company To Watch (2010), Forum For Expatriate Management: EMMA: Destination Services Provider of the Year (2011 &2012), US Chamber of Commerce: Blue Ribbon Award (2011), DiversityBusiness.com: Top 50 Women Owned Businesses in Michigan (2010-2013), along with multiple client partnership awards from SIRVA and Brookfield Relocation Services (formerly Prudential).
The Life of Hortensia Albertini will be celebrated on Thursday, June 20th at 11:00 am at The Congregational Church of Birmingham, 1000 Cranbrook Road, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan 48304 with a reception immediately following.
