DUBLIN, IRELAND and SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 20, 2013) - Launching today, Soundwave is a music-discovery app with a difference, that Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak calls "a music product that so perfectly fits my life." Available for free on iOS and Android, Soundwave tracks what users are listening to in their native music apps, as well as through streaming services like Spotify and Rdio. The information appears in the Soundwave feed as it happens, providing a window into the user's music world -- showing what their friends and those they follow are listening to right now.
Coupled with the innovative music-pulling technology -- the Ireland-based Soundwave team has also been working on a unique twist to location-based discovery -- allowing users to instantly see what songs are playing at any location (country, city, street, building) simply by drawing a circle over a location of their choosing with their finger to see in real time what songs are playing, and the top-played songs for that area.
Unlike typical music apps that aim to promote manual sharing, the Soundwave app has the unique ability to pull in a user's plays without disrupting regular listening habits.
To mark the launch, Soundwave will hold an event in London next week at Apple's flagship Regent Street store. Joining the Soundwave team to celebrate is actor Stephen Fry -- early adopter and Soundwave app fan.
Soundwave is set to disrupt the music industry with its ability to track in real time what people are actually listening to -- much-needed data for an industry that is suffering from a shortage. In a recent interview, Bono declared, "In a time soon coming, we will actually get to understand what people are listening to as opposed to buying. Wouldn't you love to actually be able to find out what people are actually listening to? That's going to change the game for everybody."
According to the Soundwave founders, that time is now. Founding CEO Brendan O'Driscoll says, "Ultimately we can serve up much-needed data to the music industry allowing them to hone and ultimately craft a superior experience for that end listener and fan in what some are calling a 'Google Analytics for Music.'"
