All-Star Pitcher and CY Young Award Winner Clayton Kershaw of the LA Dodgers Visits Sharefest Summer Academy Youth at California State University Dominguez Hills

Sharefest Has Been Selected as a 2013 Charity for Kershaw's Challenge! Kershaw's Challenge is a Charity Focused on Helping At-Risk Youth and Communities in Need, Headed by Clayton Kershaw and His Wife Ellen

CARSON, Calif., July 11, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Friday July 26, 2013 Sharefest Summer Youth Development Academy students will have the opportunity to meet and receive pitching lessons from All-Star Dodger Pitcher, Clayton Kershaw as part of his charity campaign, Kershaw's Challenge.

Kershaw's Challenge is centered on encouraging people to use whatever God-given passion, purpose or talent they have to make a difference and give back to others in need. It believes that through our spheres of influence, we can positively impact communities in need and transform children's lives.

Kershaw's Challenge's goal is to help expand Sharefest's afterschool programming to include an additional school site, helping to raise $50,000. Due to their support, Sharefest will now be able to offer full-time after school programming 5 days a week for the entire school year. As part of this wonderful organization, we will be able to continue the work in maximizing students' academic and personal potential -- regardless of their income level.

Along with financial assistance, the Kershaws are also committed to hands-on service and investing in the work of their non-profit partners. As part of that commitment, Kershaw himself will work with and coach at the Sharefest Summer Academy located at California State University Dominguez Hills, touching the lives of over 200 youth from the Harbor Gateway/ South Bay region.

This is Sharefest's first year in partnership with Kershaw's Challenge and we are so appreciative and thankful to those who believe in our programming and are humbled by this opportunity. Over the last 7 years our free summer day academy has provided over 800 youth with transportation, two nutritious meals, swim lessons, creative writing courses and sport activities. This work could not have been possible without the partnership of wonderful organizations such as Kershaw's Challenge and the commitment of Clayton Kershaw and his wife Ellen him to being a blessing to those in need.
