LANCASTER, PA--(Marketwired - Jul 16, 2013) - Financial planner Rick Rodgers' new office building, a historic manor house, is also providing non-profits with a free venue for seminars, dinners and retreats.
Rodgers, (www.RodgersSpeaks.com), author of "The New Three-Legged Stool: A Tax Efficient Approach to Retirement Planning," initially sought to move his wealth management firm because of a dearth of parking. When he discovered Armstrong Manor was up for sale, he realized it could accommodate another need.
"My wife and I have long wanted to provide a place where charities could have their 'thank you' dinners, seminars, and other events without having to spend money that could be going toward their good works," Rodgers says. "Armstrong Manor makes it possible for us to provide that. Plus, we knew about the property and its interesting history, which just added to the appeal."
Originally a farmhouse built in 1866, the building was remodeled over the years to accommodate other uses. It seemed ideally suited for both of Rodgers' purposes. The elegant two-story building had 24 hotel-style rooms that once housed trainees attending a six-month program. Those were turned into offices. Downstairs, an expansive lounge area, kitchen and conference room offer ample space for non-profits' events.
"We've been involved with charities for many years," says Rodgers, president of Rodgers & Associates. "We believe that 'to whom much is given, much is expected,' and we sincerely enjoy giving back."
In addition to providing a venue, Rodgers and his wife negotiated with five catering firms who agreed to provide discounted services for the non-profits. They even struck a deal with a dry cleaner, who will launder tablecloths and linens at a discount.
"This is something any firm with similar facilities might consider as a way to lock arms with local charities," Rodgers says. "We held an open house and we already have lots of non-profits lining up events."
