MARLBOROUGH, MA--(Marketwired - Aug 27, 2013) - New England Dental Group pledges to their patients that "your time is as important as ours." With this in mind, Margarita Panajoti, D.M.D. and the other dentists at the Marlborough and Southborough practice use the CEREC® milling system to perform many tooth restoration treatments in a single office visit. Dr. Panajoti says the advanced technology saves patients time while providing them with the same quality results produced with more traditional, time-consuming restoration methods.
According to Dr. Panajoti, the greatest benefit of the CEREC® one-visit dental crowns system is that the procedure requires only one visit to the practice and does not require the added time typically required with a third-party lab restoration. Those lab restorations also usually require the patient to wear a temporary restoration while waiting for the final crown, filling, or porcelain dental veneer to be completed.
With CEREC® restorations, Dr. Panajoti is in complete control of the final product. She says lab restorations, on the other hand, are made by a lab technician who has never met or seen the patient. Dr. Panajoti is able to make adjustments to the ceramic teeth in her office based on the look of the patient's natural teeth. The CEREC® system's computer recognizes the rest of the teeth and generates a proposal that Dr. Panajoti uses as a basis for each patient's individual restoration design.
The cosmetic dentist says not only does the CEREC® system save the patient time, but the patient is also able to see -- and, in a sense, control -- the quality of the work being produced. With the computer rendering, the patient is able to see a preview of what the final product will look like when the design is complete. Using an optical impression created from an image taken with a digital camera, Dr. Panajoti works on each restoration design in front of the patient so that the patient is able to see the look of the final product. In rare cases of a patient disliking the projected product, the patient is able to voice any concerns and work with Dr. Panajoti to find a solution that meets the patient's expectations.
Dr. Panajoti also notes that the CEREC® system allows her to work on up to four tooth restorations in a single sitting/visit, requiring that the patient be numbed only once for placement. She says, because laboratory-made crown restorations are created by mixing powder and liquid, the glass particles of the restoration are very far apart from each other and can create an abrasive surface. For patients who grind their teeth, this abrasive surface can actually impact their other healthy teeth. With the CEREC® system, Dr. Panajoti says the ceramic particles are pre-compressed and the restoration is carved out of a solid brick of porcelain, resulting in a much smoother surface.
For over ten years, Dr. Panajoti and her team have used the CEREC® system and witnessed the equipment and software progress. Being able to immediately see the final results of the finished product in a single office visit is exciting not only for the patient but also for Dr. Panajoti. Since the technology is designed to make the results as comfortable and natural-looking as possible, Dr. Panajoti says the CEREC® system offers many patients both quality and convenience, without the need to wait weeks for a custom-designed restoration to be completed.
