PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J., Sept. 10, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Improving the security and trust in online identities through federated identity and the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC) initiative is the topic of a full-day workshop next month at the Smart Card Alliance 12th Annual Government Conference. The workshop, "Federated Identity, Strong Authentication, NSTIC and the Identity Ecosystem" is being held pre-conference on Oct. 14 from 8:30 a.m.-5:15 p.m. at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

At the center of the workshop is the White House's NSTIC initiative, which aims to improve on the credentials currently used to access the Internet and authenticate identity online, and to create and secure a trusted identity ecosystem. By enabling the principles of NSTIC, individuals will no longer have to remember an ever-growing (and potentially insecure) list of user names and passwords to access various online services.
The workshop is comprised of eleven sessions with identity experts answering these questions:
- What is the NSTIC initiative?
- What is happening within the Identity Ecosystem Steering Group (IDESG)?
- What are the fundamentals of a federated identity infrastructure?
- What different levels of assurance are used in identity verification?
- What technologies and tokens can be used in the identity ecosystem?
- How can the identity ecosystem be used in healthcare?
- How can the identity ecosystem be used for financial services?
- How can the identity ecosystem be used for government services?
- Can mobile devices be used as identity credential carriers?
The workshop will conclude with a roundtable discussion and an open Q-and-A session for all participants.
On Oct. 15, the Smart Card Alliance will kick off its 12th Annual Government Conference, known as the leading event for ID security.
