NEW YORK, Sept. 25, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- KPMG LLP and its Chairman and CEO John Veihmeyer were today recognized for their corporate responsibility leadership by Corporate Responsibility (CR) Magazine, which has named Veihmeyer one of its "Responsible CEO of the Year" award recipients.

CR Magazine's annual awards are presented to CEOs across industries whose organizations visibly exceed standards in the areas of employee relations, environmental impact, human rights, philanthropy, and corporate responsibility practices. The 2013 award recipients will be honored at its Responsible CEO of the Year Awards Dinner taking place on Oct. 9 in New York.

One of KPMG's top corporate responsibility programs is KPMG's Family for Literacy (KFFL), which is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year. KFFL is dedicated to combating illiteracy and improving children's education. Through this program, KPMG has distributed more than 2 million books to children in underprivileged communities.

Award recipients were nominated by fellow members of the corporate responsibility community and selected by an independent judging panel comprised of previous recipients and other industry leaders. In determining the recipients, judges considered several dimensions of the aforementioned standards including: the scope of the CEO's impact on their organization and community, the extent to which the CEO drove this initiative, and the individual reputation or professional risk taken by the CEO.
