NEW YORK, Sept. 25, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- An exhibition of artworks by Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) studio art faculty is set to open in the newly built Shirley Fiterman Art Center. Professional designers and artists, the dedicated instructors in the BMCC Music and Art Department will have their work on view from September 26 to October 26, 2013. Participating faculty members are Simon Carr, Betty Copeland, Pat Genova, Xico Greenwald, Sarah Haviland, Ann Hjelle, Thaddeus Radell, Jessica Ramirez, Jerrold Schoenblum, Anthony Sorce and A.C. Towery.
An opening reception, free and open to the public, will be held Saturday, September 28, from 4 to 7PM. The event will feature a 5:15PM concert by BMCC's Fiterman Trio.
The Music and Art Department at BMCC runs 200 classes a semester in music performance, music history and theory, studio art, digital design and art history, providing students with opportunities to explore different visual media and musical outlets. Presenting students with a variety of classes in various subjects, from survey courses to specialized instruction, the BMCC faculty supports students' educational and professional goals in the creative arts.

SHIRLEY FITERMAN ART CENTER
Housed in the newly opened Fiterman Hall, the Shirley Fiterman Art Center at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is dedicated to supporting and enriching the cultural life of the students, staff and faculty of BMCC, as well as the community by providing a venue for a broad range of high-caliber exhibitions. The College seeks to create a cultural resource that will support artistic excellence, inspire and encourage dialogue, and foster an understanding and appreciation of the socio-cultural importance of art. The Faculty Art Show is only the second exhibition held in the Center.
