Fine Jewelry Goes Punk This Fall

Fall fashion's edgiest trend makes its way into fine jewelry accessories

NEW YORK, Sept. 26, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Punk fashion and fine jewelry may seem like an odd couple, but your jewelry accessories offer an ideal way to wear one of fall's biggest fashion trends without having to go all out. Punk fashion's popularity, exemplified by this year's Metropolitan Museum of Arts' Met Gala theme of "Punk: From Chaos to Couture," has now made its way into fine jewelry.

"Punk jewelry can be pretty, albeit with an edge," says Amanda Gizzi, spokesperson for Jewelry Information Center, the consumer education arm of Jewelers of America. "The punk jewelry trend is all about 'rocking out' classic jewelry design with punk elements such as black diamonds, dark gemstones, crosses or spikes."

With the fall 2013 runways of New York and Paris defined by pretty and almost conservative designs, the punk-inspired fall fashion collections were a light and happy escape. The punk trend for fall is wearable with an air of femininity that lends itself perfectly to fine jewelry designs.
Punk jewelry for fall is not over the top.  It is pretty and can be worn together with more traditional jewelry. Jewelry styles to look for are studs, spikes, arrows, crosses and jewelry with dark metals and dark gemstones.

"Reputable jewelry retailers, such as those that are members of Jewelers of America, are taking to the trend as well and filling their jewelry display cases with punk jewelry you will want to accessorize with this season," adds Gizzi.
