NEW YORK, NY and LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 30, 2013) - BuckleySandler LLP, a leading financial services and criminal and civil enforcement defense law firm, is pleased to announce that Moorari K. Shah, former Director, Strategic Sourcing and Procurement Operations and Managing Counsel of Toyota Motor Credit Corporation, has joined the firm as Counsel. Shah will join the firm's Auto Finance practice, led by partner John C. Redding in California, and will provide legal counsel to clients on consumer finance lending, servicing, vendor management, portfolio purchases and on automotive finance needs. Shah, currently based in the firm's New York office, will be resident in the Los Angeles office in the latter part of next year.
"Moorari's successful track record for fostering collaborative relationships across business lines along with his intricate knowledge of the auto lending space will be a great asset to our clients and the firm's growing auto finance practice," noted BuckleySandler Chairman and Executive Partner, Andrew L. Sandler.
At Toyota, Shah negotiated a wide-range of complex on-shore and off-shore information technology and business process outsourcing transactions and represented the company in commercial and consumer lending and leasing matters, including Dodd-Frank Act and CFPB compliance. Additionally, he represented Toyota in securing credit facilities with foreign and domestic banks in support of Toyota's multi-billion dollar funding initiatives, as well as helped to enforce Toyota's rights and remedies against corporate debtors in non-bankruptcy workout negotiations.
"As banks and non-bank finance companies brace for further scrutiny by the CFPB and other regulators in auto lending, BuckleySandler is advising auto lenders in conducting fair and responsible lending reviews, managing vendors and other state and federal issues," explained Redding. "Moorari's experience addressing auto finance needs, including vendor management, legal compliance audits and due diligence reviews of business forms, processes and policies and procedures for compliance with state and federal requirements will be of great value to our clients."
Previously, Shah was the Manager of Business and Legal Affairs for British Telecommunications (formerly Infonet), where he negotiated global outsourcing contracts, franchising agreements and strategic alliances with other telecom companies. From 2001 to 2003, Shah was an associate at a New York law firm, where he represented public and private corporations in mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financings and commercial contracts. Shah began his career as Assistant District Attorney with the New York County District Attorney's Office.
Shah is a member of the Board of Directors for the Fisler Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Technology, a non-profit educational foundation dedicated to enhancing the science and technology programs for public school students in furtherance of 21st century learning. Shah received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Boston University School of Law and Bachelor of Arts from Duke University. He is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
