STATE COLLEGE, PA., Oct. 3, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- EnergyCAP Founder and CEO Steve Heinz was named the 2013 International Energy Engineer of the Year by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) at the recent World Energy Engineering Congress. Heinz was chosen among AEE's membership of 16,000 energy professionals in 90 countries for "outstanding accomplishments in promoting the practices, principles and procedures of energy engineering" over a career in energy information software that has spanned almost 40 years.
His acceptance speech is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZmTDisR1t4.
Heinz was the first to publish energy management software when he released FASER energy accounting software in 1982. An updated version, EnergyCAP utility bill tracking software, was released in 2003. More than 10,000 energy managers in 3,000 organizations have used the software to track over $25 billion in energy spending.
Heinz also pioneered popular cost avoidance measurement and verification calculations as early as 1985, more than a decade before the first version of the IPMVP standard. IPMVP has become the standard for quantifying energy savings attributable to energy management projects. FASER and EnergyCAP's cost avoidance modules have verified over $4 billion in proven cost savings for more than 25,000 buildings.
Heinz' interest in energy conservation started when he was a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy. As a student in civil engineering, he proposed an energy efficiency project to improve the dormitory heating system that was adopted by the Air Force. A few years later when PCs were in their infancy, Heinz taught himself BASIC programming language, created FASER, and began selling it to government, education, and commercial organizations.
As part of a free educational webinar series, Heinz is presenting "Five Surprising Lessons Learned from 30 Years of Energy Software" on October 21. Webinar registration is available at https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/274175458.
