HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwired - Oct 3, 2013) - Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc. is recommending that business aviation operators planning to attend the 2013 Airtel Indian Grand Prix and seeking preferred access to aircraft parking, hotel accommodations and related trip support services, should begin planning immediately. The race will take place Oct. 25-27, 2013 at the Buddh International Circuit located just outside New Delhi.
"The primary airport to consider for this event is Indira Gandhi International Airport (VIDP) in New Delhi, which is a one-hour, 10-minute drive from the Buddh International Circuit," said Manav Chopra, Manager, Universal Aviation India.
"Airport slots are required for all arrivals and departures to VIDP," said Chopra. "As this is a high-traffic airport, airport slots should be requested in advance. If aircraft parking becomes unavailable at VIDP for this event, there are two alternate airports to consider: Jaipur (VIJP) and Agra (VIAG) -- both approximately 30-minute flights from VIDP. Keep in mind that VIAG is a military airport, and lead time for permits is 30 working days, this option requires more pre-planning."
"Operators should also be mindful of certain unique considerations that come into play when operating to India," said Chopra. "You must, for example, always carry a towbar, and the captain's personal presence is always required when filing flight plans."
"Many good hotel options, including popular large chain hotels, are available in the New Delhi area," said Chopra.
"It's recommended that you try to book 4- or 5-star hotels as early as possible due to high demand over the Indian Grand Prix period," said Chopra. "Avoid rental vehicles if you're not familiar with the area due to traffic issues and possible road closures during the event period. I recommend hiring a car with a driver."
Another consideration when traveling to India is that of crew visas. In the past there have been difficulties in obtaining visas, but as of Sept. 4, 2013 that has changed with a new circular. Crews now are able to obtain visas for appropriate duration subject to usual checks. Furthermore, crew may also obtain a visa upon arrival which is also referred to the Temporary Landing Permit (TLP), when appropriate advance notice is given. Details of these changes are published here: http://www.universalweather.com/blog/2013/09/obtaining-crew-visas-and-temporary-landing-permits-for-india-process-has-been-streamlined/.
