ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwired - Oct 29, 2013) - Leaders and innovators from across the nation will come together on November 12, 2013, at the historic Fox Theatre for the 4th annual Health IT Leadership Summit, focusing on "Technology's Role in Revolutionizing Healthcare." Featured speaker Reed Tuckson, MD, Managing Director, Tuckson Health Connections, LLC, and former Executive Vice President and Chief of Medical Affairs at UnitedHealth Group, will address "The Pragmatic Challenges for Implementing Innovation in the Evolving Healthcare Landscape."
Tuckson, one of Modern Healthcare magazine's "50 Most Powerful Physician Executives," is well suited to speak on the practicalities of implementing healthcare innovation. In addition to his tenure at UnitedHealth, he has also held leadership positions at the American Medical Association, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, and has acted as Commissioner of Public Health for the District of Columbia.
"Last year, UnitedHealth became the largest health insurance carrier in the United States, thanks in many ways to its focus on innovation in the areas of consumer engagement and mobile health," says Wayne Myers, COO of Karna and Chairman of the Summit. "Hearing Dr. Tuckson's perspective on how the Affordable Care Act will affect healthcare consumers and how healthcare will be delivered in the future will be timely and informative."
Summit attendees will also hear from WebMD founder and current Sharecare CEO Jeff Arnold, who will speak with John Yates, Partner, Morris, Manning & Martin LLP, in a fireside-style discussion about healthcare IT as it relates to patient acquisition and patient engagement. "Healthcare is about to significantly transform," Myers adds, "and it is exciting that we will hear from two industry leaders who have a vision for the future and are actively working to make it a reality."
In addition to featured speaker presentations, the Summit will offer attendees a full day of informational sessions, exhibits and networking opportunities, focusing on how new care paradigms, patient-centered healthcare and enabling technologies will transform the way healthcare is provided in the next decade under the Healthcare Reform Act. In addition, one qualifying company will be awarded the Summit's Intel Innovation Award, which recognizes organizations that use technology in innovative ways, demonstrate strong clinical and financial benefits, or find new ways to address specific disease states or improve patient health.
