NEWARK, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 7, 2013) - SMART Modular Technologies, Inc., a leading independent designer, manufacturer and supplier of value added subsystems including memory modules, flash memory cards and other solid state storage products, today announced that they have attained an unprecedented reliability level of sub-two hundred DPPM with their DDR3 RDIMM Enterprise Memory. By comparison, typical DDR3 RDIMM memory can have DPPM rates in the thousands.
This exceptional DPPM rate is accomplished utilizing a SMART proprietary Ultra-Reliability Test (URT) burn-in process. Early life failures and weak modules are eliminated through SMART's URT lab where every enterprise grade module undergoes a rigorous triple-stress process entailing hours of burn-in at high speed operation, running custom software at 99% DRAM utilization. A significant and increasing module sample size, careful customer data collection, and ongoing reliability analysis has confirmed the low DPPM over a four year period. While SMART conducts its URT process on its own Enterprise Memory modules, it also offers URT burn-in as a value-added service on modules built by other DRAM manufactures.
SMART has shipped more than a hundred thousand Enterprise Memory modules with a proven failure rate of less than two in ten thousand. In a 4GB DDR3 module analysis, the company has shipped over 31,000 Enterprise Memory modules to an enterprise storage OEM customer which yielded a DPPM rate of only 161. In an 8GB DDR3 analysis, SMART shipped over 88,000 Enterprise Memory modules with a DPPM rate of 151. These DPPMs translate into data integrity, enhanced reputation, and total cost of ownership savings for OEM customers.
"Enterprise OEMs are under constant pressure to improve quality while reducing costs. SMART's Enterprise Memory enables them to meet those goals," stated Alan Marten, President of the Memory Business Unit for SMART Modular Technologies. " Having failure rates fall consistently below 200 parts per million speaks directly to quality. And this quality, in turn, provides significant savings for our OEM customers in field service costs and substantially decreases the downtime experienced by their end customers. Our Enterprise Memory brings tremendous value to our customers, and that's our goal."
Enterprise Memory is available in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB DDR3 Registered DIMMs. For more information and OEM pricing, contact Arthur Sainio, Director of DRAM Product Marketing at SMART Modular Technologies at (510) 624-8126 or at arthur.sainio@smartm.com.
