COSTA MESA, Calif., Nov. 8, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In a twist to its monthly Denim Day fundraiser, employees of business support services company Morgan Drexen left the suit and tie at home recently, instead wearing their favorite team jersey to raise money for CHOC Children's hospital.
"It's always nice to do a little something different, especially when it benefits the charities in Orange County," said company CEO Walter Ledda.
Morgan Drexen supports nearly a dozen charities and recently upped its commitment to raise money for CHOC Children's from $25,000 to $35,000 over the course of 5 years.
Much of the money comes from employees participating in the monthly "Denim Day" events, when they get to ditch the corporate dress code and wear jeans to work in exchange for a charitable donation.
In fact, it was an employee who came up with the idea of the "sports themed" event.
"Being able to contribute in any way, especially to such a great cause like CHOC Children's is so fulfilling," said employee Desmond Adams. "And hey, if being creative can get even more people involved, then it's certainly worth the effort."
There were a lot of football jerseys roaming the halls, but other teams were represented as well, including the L.A. Angels of Anaheim and the Anaheim Ducks.
Morgan Drexen's relationship with CHOC Children's has been strong for years. In fact, Vice President of Media & Public Relations Karen Carlson is a member of the hospital foundation's Corporate Partnership Committee.
The Costa Mesa-based company has been able to raise a total of $21,660.00 so far for CHOC Children's, including October's donation of $630.00.
Employees recently gathered nearly a ton and a half of food for the OC Rescue Mission and also served food to residents at the Village of Hope. In addition, last week, the company had an on-site blood drive for the American Red Cross to save lives this holiday season.
