SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 15, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, Give2Asia, a 501(c)3 social enterprise announces new sponsors and potential local project partners responding to Typhoon Haiyan, known locally as Yolanda, which devastated the central Philippines last week.
- The Lisa and Douglas Goldman Fund has announced a $100,000 gift for Give2Asia's Typhoon Yolanda Recovery Fund.
- Seagate Technology announced a $25,000 gift for Give2Asia's response efforts.
- The Cigna Foundation will respond with a $25,000 advised grant to Give2Asia's local partners.
These gifts are in addition to earlier contributions from Advent Software Inc., EMC Corporation, H.B. Fuller Company, the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, and the PepsiCo Foundation. US-based donors can support local responders through the Typhoon Yolanda Recovery Fund at give2asia.org/yolanda.
Give2Asia is focused on partnering with local responders. Give2Asia's team in the Philippines is working to stay on top of emerging needs and to identify local organizations well-placed to provide relief and perform recovery work in the coming months.

Give2Asia has identified several potential partners in the disaster area and is working collaboratively to develop short and long term response projects with these and other partners:
- Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is a local Filipino government agency quickly mobilizing to provide food to affected families. DSWD has provided approximately 300,000 family food packs to the disaster area so far and intends to send two million packs within the next two weeks.
- International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is a fiscal sponsor partner of Give2Asia based in the Philippines. IRRI is responding to the typhoon through the Philippine Department of Agriculture to assess damage in rice-farming areas and provide assistance for long-term recovery such as seeds of that are climate-change ready, including scuba rice.
- Jeepneed is a fiscal sponsor partner of Give2Asia that provides rural students with hands-on science lessons through mobile science labs. Jeepneed is working with local officials in Capiz, where 100 percent of property and farmland were damaged, according to local reports.
- Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) is a private, national and non-profit foundation established by the country's business leaders as an expression of their corporate social responsibility. PBSP is providing immediate relief assistance such as food, water, shelter and medical aid to affected areas. Its long-term strategy will focus on rebuilding infrastructure and the local economy.
