LANCASTER, PA--(Marketwired - Nov 15, 2013) - Financial planner Rick Rodgers, (www.RodgersSpeaks.com), through his firm Rodgers & Associates, is partnering with a local community foundation to sponsor an online 24-hour charity marathon on Nov. 22.
The 2013 Extraordinary Give, in its second year, provides prizes and bonus money for charities in contests designed to make the event a festive and friendly rivalry among donors. It's an excellent model for how businesses can work with local non-profits to inspire giving that benefits everyone in the community, says Rodgers, author of "The New Three-Legged Stool: A Tax Efficient Approach to Retirement Planning."
"We support the Extraordinary Give because it unites individuals and other businesses in the goal of building a healthy community," he says. "The Extraordinary Give makes philanthropy accessible, fun and easy."
From midnight to 11:59 p.m. Nov. 22, Lancaster businesses and residents will be encouraged to donate to one or more of 250 local charities via extragive.org. The greater the percentage of total donations a charity receives, the more it gets in "stretch" money from a $250,000 pool provided by Rodgers & Associates and the Lancaster County Community Foundation. Everyone can watch each charity's progress live via a leader board on the website.
The partners are also providing $50,000 in prize money through contests such as the Early Bird Challenge: The first 10 organizations to receive 50 unique gifts of $25 or more gets a grant prize of $1,000.
"In its first year, The Extraordinary Give raised $1.69 million -- amazing for a county with just over 500,000 residents," Rodgers says.
Rodgers & Associates, which specializes in meeting the needs of high-net-worth investors who are retired or looking to retire within a few years, has long supported charitable causes.
"We believe that 'to whom much is given, much is expected,' and we sincerely enjoy giving back," says Rodgers, who purchased a large, 19th-century manor house in 2011 to house his office and to provide a free venue for local non-profits to hold events.
