SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 20, 2013) - Proponents of California's Marijuana Control, Legalization and Revenue Act of 2014 (MCLR) have extended their timeline for further input from California voters before filing final amendments with the Secretary of State the first week of December. The initiative's supporters are coordinating meet-and-greet events throughout California to gather ideas and support before the last realistic date to file for the 2014 California General Election.
Americans for Policy Reform (AFPR - www.americansforpolicyreform.com), the group behind MCLR, recently released polling results showing over 64% of voters in the California 2014 election support legalizing marijuana. Proponent John Lee states, "The time is now. The voters are ready, and we can get it done."
"We have been working very hard to include everyone in the drafting of the MCLR language," states Dave Hodges, proponent. "This latest outreach demonstrates our commitment to an open, inclusive process to legalizing marijuana in California."
For the last year AFPR has been working with thousands of Californians on a grassroots, "open source" document to legalize cannabis for medical, industrial and adult social use. To date, AFPR has reached out to dozens of attorneys, activist groups and hundreds of people at cannabis related events. The language has also been provided via press releases and social media including Linkedin, Facebook, BoingBoing and Twitter.
"This statewide outreach effort is a great opportunity to educate," states proponent Degé Coutee. "Many citizens don't know how to effectively engage democracy or understand the process; we can help with that."
"This is the best cannabis initiative ever put together for California," says proponent Bob Bowerman. "It follows federal guidelines and regulates cannabis in a way that makes sense. It corrects the other legal mistakes."
MCLR supporters are holding events over the next several weeks in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, San Jose, Santa Rosa and Sacramento. Other events are being planned throughout the state. Anyone interested in hosting or attending an event can contact: John Lee at John@afpr.us.
