CARRBORO, N.C., Nov. 22, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The latest holiday additions at Provence highlight the restaurant's tradition of artfully pleasing the palate, as well as the eye.
In addition to savory new epicurean attractions, the popular dining spot is featuring newly completed museum-quality murals in its bar area.
Hand-painted by acclaimed artist Natalie Worthington, the themed paintings are inspired by fables written in the 17th century by French poet Jean de la Fontaine.
"Natalie has brought a new, warm dimension to the room, which is a delightful venue for private parties," said Executive Chef Baptist Knaven, an owner of the iconic regional French and Mediterranean restaurant in Carrboro, N.C. In addition to North Carolina, Ms. Worthington's paintings have been featured in art shows in a variety of locales, ranging from the mid-Atlantic to Southeastern United States.
Among other honors, two of Ms. Worthington's creations were chosen for inclusion in the PaintNC "A Visual Journey Through NC" exhibition at the Greenville (N.C.) Museum of Art.
Tempting both the eye and the taste buds are some new choices on the Provence menu, such as Charlotte of Duck Confit and Wild Mushrooms, served with Braised Red Cabbage and a Chanterelle Cream; Corn-Breaded North Carolina Speckled Trout served over Soft Chèvre Polenta, and Grilled Asparagus and Bay leaf Beurre Blanc.
And, for dessert, the kitchen is greeting the holidays with a tempting Classic Tarte Tatin with homemade Caramel Ice Cream and Crispy Apple Rind.
