TokBox Wins Best In Show Award at WebRTC Conference & Expo

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 21, 2013) - TokBox, a Telefónica Digital company, has won the Best In Show Award at the 2013 WebRTC Conference and Expo, the leading global WebRTC event.

The award recognizes the industry contribution of the OpenTok WebRTC Platform, which allows developers and enterprise to add live video using WebRTC into a browser or mobile application. In particular, it is in recognition of the advancements to the OpenTok platform that were announced at the Expo, including OpenTok Archiving and Playback, the Android SDK for WebRTC, Dynamic Frame Rate Control and TURN over TCP.

Ian Small, TokBox CEO: "The support and recognition of the industry has made us all the more determined in our mission to provide developers with the best tools for creating innovative websites and mobile applications incorporating live video. The WebRTC community is coming into an exciting age, and we are very proud to be a part of its vision and growth."

OpenTok Archiving & Playback allows developers to easily add video stream recording for their live video chat applications, save the conversation into a single H.264/AAC MP4 file, and download or access the stream through the player of their choice. The Android SDK for WebRTC release will, for the first time, allow developers to build WebRTC video chat functionality into native Android apps using the OpenTok Platform.

The Dynamic Frame Rate Control capability will allow developers to allocate lower frame rates to video streams in real time based on application logic. Developers can decide where they want to spend constrained bandwidth resources to deliver the best experience for their users. The addition of TURN over TCP will allow WebRTC applications to run in environments previously restricted by corporate firewalls.

OpenTok, launched in 2010, has been used by tens of thousands of developers to add live video to their websites or mobile applications. TokBox was amongst the first to support WebRTC when it launched OpenTok for WebRTC in 2012, and was the first platform to support the addition of live video chat to iOS.
