NORTHFIELD, VT., Nov. 26, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Norwich University has been named to several lists by publications that rank institutions of higher education for military or veteran "friendliness," including U.S. News and World Report, Victory Media's G.I. Jobs, Gannett's Military Times and Military Advanced Education.
Rankings highlight universities that participate in military-specific federal funding initiatives, such as the Yellow Ribbon Program, and institutional measures that ease the transition from a military lifestyle to that of a college student.

Norwich is named to U.S. News and World Report's inaugural list, 2014 Best Colleges for Veterans, in the Regional (North) category. As explained on its website: "These are the top-ranked schools in the Best Colleges rankings that participate in federal initiatives helping veterans and active service members apply, pay for and complete their degrees."
For the fifth year, Norwich was named one of the most military-friendly schools in the U.S. by Victory Media, a veteran-owned business and publisher of G.I. Jobs and the Guide to Military Friendly Schools®. The 2014 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 20 percent of U.S. colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America's military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success.
Norwich ranks on the Military Times Best for Vets: College 2014 list. This distinction recognizes and rewards Norwich for its commitment to providing opportunities to America's veterans. Best for Vets provides service men and women a gauge for school and degree programs. The rankings factor in service member enrollment, percentage of tuition covered by the GI Bill, and availability of specific programs to help service members. The extensive evaluation process also factors in statistics commonly used to track student success and academic quality, including student loan default rates, retention rates, graduation rates and student-faculty ratios.
Norwich University has also been selected as a top military-friendly school in Military Advanced Education's 2014 Guide to Military-Friendly Colleges & Universities, a list featured annually in the magazine's December issue.
Norwich educates more than 200 active military and veteran students on campus and more than one-third of students in its online programs fall in to one of those categories.
