New York State Society of Plastic Surgeons Names New President

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Dec 17, 2013) - Manhattan plastic surgeon Stafford R. Broumand, MD has recently been announced as President of the New York State Society of Plastic Surgeons for a term that will extend until November of 2014. On his path to presidency, Dr. Broumand was first nominated into the society as a Member-At-Large, a process customary for all new members, and then progressed through the ranks of Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, President Elect, and now, President.

According to a recent blog post entitled Dr. Broumand Named President of Plastic Surgery Society, the New York State Society of Plastic Surgeons, or NYSSPS, is "a statewide group of plastic surgeons dedicated to promoting and supporting objectives that are significant to both practitioners of plastic surgery, and more importantly, patients receiving plastic surgery." While in office, the Manhattan plastic surgeon plans to focus his attention on a variety of plastic surgery and medical care-based objectives, three of which include:

• "Ensuring physicians who practice plastic surgery in the state of New York are, in fact, plastic surgeons, rather than medical professionals who simply offer plastic surgery."
  
  
• "Lobbying for a bill that mandates physicians who advertise themselves as "board-certified" must also be required to list the American Board of Medical Specialty (ABMS) with which they are credentialed."
  
  
• "Supporting a bill that will allow physicians to bargain with health insurance companies about benefits, ultimately enabling patients to use their benefits for medical care outside of their network coverage."
